The XIII. Conference
The XIII. Conference and Plenary of the Balkan and Euro-Mediterranean Network of Councils for the Judiciary (BEMNCJ) was hosted by the Judicial Council of Montenegro and took place in Budva on 21-22 June 2018.
On the Plenary Mr. Gjin Gjoni, the President of the Network, the representatives of the High Council of Justice of Albania, the Supreme Judicial Council of Bulgaria, the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors of Turkey, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Judicial Council of Montenegro, the Kosovo Judicial Council, the High judicial Council of the Republic of Serbia, State Prosecutorial Council of the Republic of Serbia and the National Office for the Judiciary of Hungary were present.
The conference had two main topic this year: The role of the Councils of the Judiciary in the fight against terrorism – The use of social media by judges and prosecutors and Relationship between the Councils of the Judiciary and the other state institutions concerning scientific relations. Speakers from Montenegro, Kosovo, Hungary, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina share their experiences and best practises of the councils on the above mentioned fields.
On the second day the Plenary of the Network decided about organisational issues. The Plenary elected the National Office for the Judiciary of Hungary as Secretariat of BEMNCJ for an additional 3 years period. The members decided about the venue of the next year’s Plenary that will be held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 20-21 June 2019. The members will discuss about the actual questions of the following topics: The role of the impartiality, integrity and accountability of the judges and prosecutors as a factor of independence of the Judiciary and The future of the electronic proceedings in the Judiciary.
